CREATING A PATTERN/ Lumpfish ,Cyclopterus lumpus

In the St-Lawrence, some fish are more flamboyant than others. The Atlantic lumpfish is one of them. Usually bright red, it changes colours with the seasons. Other than its colour, its pectoral fins and tail attracted my attention the first time I saw it while diving underwater. It looks like a series of sails made of a fine, transparent, silky veil. Another surprising feature is its underdeveloped dorsal fin, which looks incomplete and rather comical. In it I found the perfect subject for a motif. After many hours at the drawing board, here is the result. Many of our products bear this distinctive motif. |
